Promotional Reels for Social Ads

As a person who has a strong aptitude for being hands-on and producing things, I often enjoy a challenge and learning new skills. My involvement in the Jacksonville music scene has presented me with opportunities to develop these promotional reels that were used for advertising on Instagram and Facebook. Each concept uses some different techniques and follow varying creative directions. However, they all shared a common goal: to generate excitement about the events and to drive ticket sales and attendance.

The First Strike Tour

This is the most recent ad reel I have created. The performers had a sufficient archive of live performance videos which convey the level of energy and fun that’s common at their shows. I supplemented this with some of my own footage of crowds from other events I have attended. When combined with an upfront marketing hook and other event details as text overlays, the reel invites viewers to join in the fun at this high energy music event.

There was a great turnout for the show, meeting expectations for attendance, and the diversity of attendees is likely a result of the visual message from the reel.

Ben Soundscape & Collette Warren

With this reel, I also had access live performance footage from the headlining artists. Having this footage is essential to conveying the level of fun and inclusion that can be expected. I combined this with assets from the event’s static flyer design; additionally, I created an animation from the flyer’s background.

I chose to splash the main event details at the start of the reel, knowing that viewers often drop off after the first 3-5 seconds of playback. For each screen of text, I allow enough time for viewers to consume the information. This turned out to be another packed house show which people talked about for weeks afterward

The Sam Binga Banga BBQ

This was a fun reel to create. The visual styles were already predefined by the artist who designed the static event flyer; my mission was to essentially create an animated version of the flyer to help drive engagement. The flyer designer supplied me with their Adobe Illustrator file which allowed me to extract individual design elements.

Using After Effects, I developed a sequence which included many of those elements along with some new text (using the same font from the original design) and some additional new elements. The final asset was used in paid social ads and helped generate excitement for this show.

Modūl presents Captivate

One of my first promo reels, this one relies on some stock footage of people dancing in night clubs to help set the vibe and tone. I layered this with some visuals that I created using Magic Music Visuals which is a modular visuals generator. One of the components of Magic is the ability to use audio input to modulate the visual elements; with this ability, I used the same soundtrack to “sync” the animated visuals. I then sequenced the text elements to introduce viewers to the event details.

Even without footage unique the venue or the artist, this video generated excitement and helped contribute to ticket sales and attendance for this show.
